My first Kaftan

Salaam ladies hope you are all well!
Recently I received a kaftan from a company called MyBatua. At first I was a little apprehensive as I have never really worn a kaftan before however I opened the little package and sat inside was this beautiful soft kaftan and I had to try it on straight away!
The kaftan is very different to what I have seen before and expected, it fell so beautifully, not hugging any part of the body yet it made me look slimmer and taller. The beautiful piece does include a belt to tighten it up If you need to but honestly, with the way the abaya is – you really don’t need it!
The simplicity of the kaftan means it is perfect for any occasion, you can; dress it up or down, for a night in or out (halal of course! Lol) It can really be paired with just about anything and still look amazing!
The company MyBatua, is based online they stock so many beautiful kaftans and abayas, in so many different styles and colours -there really is something on there to suit everyone! One of the things that really grasped my attention was that on the website you don’t only pick your size (S,M,L etc) you also get to choose how long you want your piece to be! So if you are someone who finds kaftans or abayas either too long or too short for you then Mybatua my friend, is your new best friend (did that work?)
If you are interested in kaftans or abayas and what to know more here is the direct link to the online store  and this is for the MyBatua Facebook page for more information!

Hope you guys enjoyed the post and will see you all soon inshallah

Till next time,

Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe!

Salaamalakum my lovelies I hope you all are well! I can’t believe it’s November already! I love the colder months for 2 reasons; 1. Cosy jumpers and 2. Scrumptious hot drinks! I love a good hot drink and I’m sure lots of you do too so here is my highly requested pumpkin spice latte recipe! This recipe does seem like a lot of faffing around but once you get the hang of it, it really is so simple! The recipe does use actual pumpkin purée, you can find tins of the purée in world food sections in supermarkets!

Serves 1.

Things you will need:

1 cup milk
1/2 cup boiling water
1 tablespoon of Pumpkin pie purée
1 1/2 teaspoon of Instant coffee
1 teaspoon Pumpkin spice mix ( if not then combine cinnamon and nutmeg)
Dash of Vanilla extract.

Milk Frother (if not use a hand blender or food processor)

Step 1: Pour the milk in to the saucepan and place on a gentle heat. Stir in the pumpkin purée, sugar and pumpkin spice mix and keep stirring until fully combined.

Step 2: whilst the milk is warming up, switch the kettle on and mix 1 1/2 teaspoon of instant coffee in a quarter of a cup of boiling water. ( you may also use 1 or 2 espresso shots depending on how strong you like it!)

Step 3: take the milk away from the heat just before it starts to boil, add the vanilla extract and stick the frother in and start creating those bubbles!

Step 4: once you’re happy with the amount of froth there is (I usually use the frother for around 40 seconds) you want to start adding the milk to the coffee, use a teaspoon to hold the froth whilst you pour the milk. Fill to about 3/4 full.

Step 5: place spoonfuls of froth to cover the milk and sprinkle with a light dusting of cinnamon and you’re done!

Hope you guys liked the recipe! If you want your coffee to be stronger you can do half a cup of coffee and half of milk it’s completely up to you!

Till next time guys!

Salaam ladies!

I know I’ve been promising to write for a while now, but with Ramadan/ Work/ Cakes4Syria (have you got yours? ( CALL NOW 01274 952144) lol) I’ve literally had like no time, not even to post OOTD pictures, ah the struggle, I know.

Whilst reminiscing on ‘my first hijab’ moments with a couple of my besties we came across a few questions we were asked that were consistent and dare I say hilarious! So I thought id share, please do keep in mind this is all light humour!

1. Do you wear your hijab to bed?

Yes, I have to keep myself covered to the men in my dreams, GWARD.

2. Can you breathe with the hijab on?

I have superpowers as I can breathe with my hijab on because obviously you breathe through your ears!

3. Did your boyfriend make you wear it?

Eh. I just can’t. No. Please. Stop.

4. Do you shower with the hijab on?

Yes because water is not allowed to touch my hair.

5. Are you bald?

Yes, the baby hairs that are sticking out are actually hair extensions.

6. Are you wearing the hijab because you are ready to get married?

LOL. Yes my hijab is an indicator for single men to seek me *cringe* *cringe* *cringe*

7. How come it’s so big?

That’s what we call hijab volume darling, *flicks hijab*

There you have it! I would love to read about what questions other hijabis have encountered so do comment them below! Also like I said, it was all for a joke, it is a great blessing to wear the hijab, I love my hijab and I love buying hijabs! Lol

Roasted Sweet Potato and Chickpeas Salad!

As Salaamu Alaykum lovelies!
WOW how long has been since I’ve posted on here? far too long I say!

So aside from fashion, makeup and all things girly I actually love to cook and bake, so i thought why not share a few of my favourite recipes with you guys?! The post today is a particular favourite of mine, it’s healthy its hearty and it’s so easy to make! There are no particular rules on how many different types of spices you want to add or how many vegetables you want to use or even how many different types of vegetables you want to use. It is completely up to you!

So here it is, salad and dressing. Enjoy!

Serves: 3
Cooking time: 50 mins

For the Salad
2 sweet potatoes
2 Bell Peppers
2 Tomatoes
1 onion
1 can of cooked chickpeas (drained)
2 tablespoons of Mozzarella cheese (optional)
Seasoning (for flavouring, use as little or as much as you like!)
Olive oil
Black pepper
Chilli powder
Worcestershire Sauce
Soy Sauce

The yogurt dressing:
3 tablespoons of yogurt
A tablespoon of tomato purée
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon of Chilli powder
1/4 teaspoon of Black pepper
1 teaspoon of Chilli Flakes (optional)

Firstly you want to preheat your oven to 180 degrees/ Gas Mark 4, then peel and dice the potatoes, they do not have to be an equal size ( I think a mixture of sizes adds to the appeal!) Oh remember not to dice them too small or you’ll be eating mashed potato (and we don’t want that!)! Follow up with dicing all the rest of the vegetables and throw them Into a baking tray lined with foil.

Add the oil, salt and rest of the seasoning as you prefer and give the vegetables a toss so everything is coated. I used about 1 1/2 teaspoons of oil, a teaspoon of salt and pepper and 2 teaspoons of chilli powder (I like my food to have a kick!) and then add the Worcestershire Sauce and Soy Sauce, I added about a tablespoon of each.

Stick the tray of goodness in the oven and cook for approximately 50 minutes, do stir once every 20 minutes.
Whilst the salad is roasting you want to start on the yogurt dressing, in a small bowl combine the yogurt and tomato purée alongside the lemon juice, then add the chilli powder, pepper and salt to taste oh and if you want a little more heat, add some chilli flakes and give it all a good stir!

When the salad had been roasting for 40 minutes, take the salad out of the oven and add your drained chickpeas, give it a final stir and top with mozzarella cheese and place it back in the oven for the final 10 minutes. You want the potatoes to still hold its shape yet be thoroughly cooked, if you feel that the potatoes are too hard you can pop it back in the oven for a further 15 minutes.

Once you’re happy with your salad it’s time to plate it up and drizzle the yogurt dressing on top annnnd you’re done!! Finally, do enjoy your salad straight away as it tastes best when hot!

It really is as simple as that and you can add the vegetables that you prefer or the seasoning you like! I hope you like this recipe and let me know if you want more recipes on here!

Till next time,

The ‘I heart Ramadan’ Tag

20140704-011048-4248379.jpg Salaam ladies! Ramadan Mubarak! Ok I know I’m like 6 days late but hey, am I the only one who’s daily routine is completely nonexistent? Lol, I thought so! I hope everyone’s fasts are going well and inshAllah they’re accepted! The beautiful Mimi ( Instagram: memoirs.uncovered) tagged me to answer a series of Ramadan related questions and as this is my first ever tag, I am rather excited! 1. When do you start getting excited about Ramadan? This is a tough one, it’s usually a few weeks before Ramadan that I am excited/nervous about it, I do love Ramadan I love the sense of togetherness it brings however I do get very nervous about how long the fasts are going to be. Every year I think I’m not ready for it but alhamdulilah I pull myself through it! 2. What’s your favourite Ramadan story? Well, remember that crazy heat wave we had mid July last year? That was the time I graduated from university and OHMYGOD it was the hottest day ever, I had absolutely no sleep and everyone was fasting around me. It was such a memorable experience, graduating with friends, family there to support me it was amazing but the fact that we were all fasting just made it more exciting and special. It was definitely a challenge but alhamdulilah I wouldn’t have it any other way! 3. Does your family have any Ramadan traditions? We open our fasts together! 99% of the time we will have Iftar and Suhoor together, sometimes we will have meals out with friends but usually it’s always a small gathering at home! We always have fruit salad before eating anything else ( I usually blend mine to make it a smoothie!) 4. What’s your favourite Ramadan food? Hmmm, chicken cooked in a lot of masala (I’m Pakistani, woo!) with creamy mash and vegetables. Oh with olives and humous! 5. When you’re fasting during the day, do you think about food? I’m going to be honest here, an hour or two before i break my fast YES I do. I’m usually fine during the day if I’m busy but towards the end I just want to eat, have a cup of tea and sleep! Lol 6. Besides water and dates, what do you break your fasts with? Hmm, usually it is always water or dates unless I’m out then it’s something random like once I remember breaking my fast with a chip lol. 7. What do you eat for Suhoor? Weetabix! Usually two biscuits with semi-skimmed milk and a smoothie. The smoothies are usually a mixture of fruit with baby spinach, chia seeds and flaxseeds (great source of fibre!) almond milk and honey. Oh sometimes if I can a slice of toast as well. This pretty much keeps me going and is sooo healthy! 8. What is your least favourite thing about Ramadan? Urm. The lack of sleep. As I have to work my fast and routine around work, my sleeping pattern is all over the place hence why I am always so tired and zombie like! 9. One thing that makes you happiest at Ramadan? The sense if togetherness of the Ummah, we’re not perfect Muslims but something about Ramadan brings us together and brings out the good in ourselves. 10. One tip you can give to people that are fasting? DRINK LOTS OF WATER! obviously this is solely when you’re allowed to but keep hydrated to avoid headaches etc. Well that the end of the tag guys! I actually really enjoyed it and will definitely be doing some more tags! I tag all my followers on Instagram to do this tag! Make sure to @_bowandlilly_ so I can read your answers! Till next time dolls! Adeela x

Hijab buns and Lipsticks!

Salaam girls,

Turban trying,Thought I’d share a few pictures! Though I have never really worn this style of hijab before I must say it is very comfortable and absolutely no messing around or fixing up which is great, right?! This type of style however looks better with a plain scarf as a patterned one will look too busy and you won’t be able to see the bow at the front! So anywayy, hope you guys liked the post! If anyone does like the style and want to know how to do it I will attempt to do a tutorial (somehow!) oh and face/outfit details will be towards the end!
